CMS Releases Health Reform Projections

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency which runs Medicare and oversees federal financing for state-run Medicaid programs, released its analysis of the recently passed health care reform legislation today.

They predict that nearly sixty percent of the 57-million people who currently lack health insurance will gain coverage, slightly more than the Congressional Budget Office’s prediction, and that new federal healthcare spending – mostly due to premium subsidies – will total $828 billion over the next ten years, also slightly higher than the CBO estimate.
