SB 67: A bad bill whose time should not come

SB 67 would English-only written drivers tests for people who are legally in this country and working hard to support their families. The Senate passed the bill yesterday, and it will now go before the House of Representatives for a final vote.

SB 67 has the potential to force refugee families onto the welfare roles by taking away the ability to commute to work. It would also make Georgia the only state in the nation to discriminiate against legal immigrants and refugees by requiring them to take the driver’s test in English without a translator—a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
