Georgians to Vote on Trauma Funding

In the final hours of this year’s legislative session, a proposed constitutional amendment to create a $10 surcharge on vehicle registrations that would be directed toward trauma care won final passage in the Senate. The fee, if approved in a November referendum, could raise $80 million which would help more hospitals provide the unprofitable services needed to save the lives of seriously injured patients.

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Georgia’s statewide trauma system could receive a huge infusion of cash through a $10 surcharge on annual auto tag renewals under a proposed constitutional amendment that passed Thursday in the final hours of the 2010 General Assembly session.
